Fun elementary school field trips available!

A field trip to the Little Red Schoolhouse has a capacity of 30 students. However, for larger groups that would need to split into two groups so all students could enjoy the experience on the same day (and use one bus). There are multiple locations within just a few miles of the Little Red Schoolhouse that would be possible partner experiences.

October 23, 2023 – Home School Teachers and their students enjoyed a field trip to the one-room schoolhouse!  Students dressed in era appropriate clothing to the school and brought a simple snack.

They enjoyed participating in putting up the flag, hearing history of the school and era, having a 1900’s reading and math lesson, practicing cursive, learning old fashioned games, and ringing the big bell in the bell tower!  They had an opportunity to purchase old-time souvenirs from our “General Store!” It was a fabulous experience for all and the teachers highly recommend the field trip.

Meet the field trip teachers:

Lisa Newberger, granddaughter of former Little Red Schoolhouse Teacher Evelyn Umberhocker!  Ms. Umberhocker taught there from 1931 -1933. Lisa is a retired teacher and assistant principal.

Judy Walstad, former student at the Little Red Schoolhouse and retired Special Education Paraprofessional

Gaye Guyton, retired elementary classroom and Gifted Talented teacher.  Prior to teaching in the Little Red Schoolhouse, she spent time each year with her students in Chaska’s historic schoolhouse from 1872.
